Sound comfort

The sound of a building greatly affects the perceived comfort. It is about not getting disturbed by unwanted sound from the outside, beteween rooms and levels but also a pleasant sound level and lack of disturbing echoes in the rooms. A good sound environment has a positive effect on or well being, productivity and communication.

Pleasant sound invironment

We sleep better when we are not disturbed, it is easier to concentrate when we are not disturbed by unwanted sound and it is easier to communicate when the speak is clear and on a pleasant level. Humans percieve sounds and loudness subjectively, but it is possible to create a pleasant sound invironment by ensuring good sound insulation and absorption controled by objective measures like sound pressure (dB), reverberation time and speech clarity.

It is a matter of creating an indoor environment that is a combination of good air quality, pleasant temperature, good sound environment and good light quality. All these factors have to be balanced and adapted to the needs of people
