Eco-Innovation & Commitments
At Saint-Gobain, we believe that we have to work today on the solutions of tomorrow. We want to be at the forefront when it comes to innovative sustainable solutions and we are ready to [co]develop the next generation of solutions.
Our ambition is to bring differentiating value to our customers by developing innovative profitable solutions that are having a better impact on People and Planet.
We believe that a sustainable construction product should combine:
- a reduced environmental and social impact from manufacturing (production and sourcing)
- with added sustainability benefits for our customers: installers and building occupants.
To achieve this, we have developed the Eco-Innovation approach and associated toolbox. This methodology is there to support our innovation teams when it comes to integrating sustainability in the product development process.
So far, more than six hundred people have been trained worldwide. In the Nordics, our first training was held in early 2015 and we have continued to work since then.
We have taken strong commitments, and associated actions, to reduce the environmental impact associated with our operations. In particular we focus on reducing our carbon footprint and building a more Circular Economy.
We are committed to reduce our energy consumption by 15% and our CO2 emissions by 20%, by 2025*.
In 2014, the Saint-Gobain group adopted an “Energy, Atmospheric Emissions and Climate Change Policy” that fixes a common framework to improve the energy efficiency of its processes. In addition, we have put in place in 2016 a new internal carbon pricing aimed at accelerating the transition towards low-carbon technologies within our operations.
In the Nordic region we have switched our electricity supply to renewable from 2018. We foresee that it will help us significantly cut our CO2 emissions, leading to a reduction of our impact of around 40,000 tonnes of CO2.
We are committed to reduce by 50% the amount of non-recovered waste we generate and by 80% the water we discharge in liquid form, by 2025 compared to 2010.
